This is the rear courtyard alongside the original Cafe wash up & prep area. The large, fenced off hole is being prepared for concrete to be poured in to support the steel framework which will form part of the new Bar/Cafe area.

Today WRW are breaking through the wall between the Cinema 2 projection room and the Cinema 2 auditorium to make the opening for the steel supports for the "super porthole", through which films will be projected. The picture shows the steel props holding the wall up prior to the brickwork being removed and the steel beam being installed in Cinema 2.

It's been a little while since we've updated you about how things are going so here's a whistle-stop tour of what we've been up to in the last few weeks, readying ourselves for the opening of Caffi Bar Chapter in its temporary home and the start of the big building works in the main building. There'll be more on what the builders are up to in those parts of the building we're no longer allowed in in the next couple of weeks...

Mon 28 April

TRACT have finished their work for now. The Stiwdio is taking shape in readiness for changeover in June, when work will begin on the main Chapter building.

We have cleared out the new keg stall under the Stiwdio steps. The new bar is being constructed as we speak.

The new Annexe (Stiwdio attic) fire escape is ready and performances and exhibitions have begun within.

Temporary bin storage has been sorted out.

We’ve added a fire alarm repeater panel to the Stiwdio doors. Brand new locks and alarms have been installed and escape route lighting is nearly ready.

The temporary Site office is being knocked into shape.

And the temporary Box Office/Gallery Shop space is being cleared out and prepared for phone and computer wiring.

Fri 28 March

Today TRACT will be installing the canopies at the Stiwdio entrance and at the covered walkway behind the "field kitchen" which will be installed in the Stiwdio compound. The final carpentry is also being carried out today. Decoration continues.

Wed 26 March

The ramp to get the beer barrels into the Stiwdio bar has been erected. Carpentry work continues on the new doors that are part of the enabling works. The temporary Box office and Gallery shop is being painted today.

Tue 25 March

The Stiwdio annexe electrics are finished. The coded door at the entrance to Ffotogallery workshops is being "swung round" today so as to allow access to the new temporary Box Office & Gallery shop. Decoration work continues.

Thu 20 March

The staircase is now installed. Fire proof cladding is being installed in that area to protect the staircase in emergencies. New doors are being installed @ SWAS ground floor fire exit, the fire exit opposite Morgan Hall’s studio & the new Facilities office.

Inside the Stiwdio has been painted white. The hoarding boards have been coated with a clear sealant. Decoration continues on the rest of the project.

Mon 10 March

Today TRACT are overseeing the removal of the scaffolding at the east side of the Stiwdio. The staircase is also being worked on.

Also, today work starts on installing a Fire Alarm repeater panel for the refurbishment works. This involves installing a cable from the existing fire panel to a position by the new main building temporary entrance, i.e. opposite Morgan Hall's studio.

Mon 3 March

Today TRACT will start putting up the hording boards. Cordless drills & hammers will be used.

Unit 8 is all but finished & painting of that area will start this week.

The bar glass washing area is also ready to be decorated.

The installation of the staircase between the Stiwdio annexe & the Stiwdio is planned to be started on Friday 7^th March.

Today TRACT will be drilling by the Stiwdio in preparation for the cover to be installed over the ramped entrance. They will also be finishing the carpentry in unit 8.

Today TRACT will be erecting scaffolding at the Llandaff Rd side of the Stiwdio in our neighbours gardens. Mosem & I have visited the houses in Llandaff rd to inform the neighbours that this is happening today.

They will also be working on the opening for the new staircase inside the Stiwdio.

Electricians will continue work in unit 8 the Stiwdio & the Cinemas corridor.

Thu 14 Feb

Today TRACT will be laying down concrete for the ramp in the new facilities office at the rear of Chapter. There will be a concrete mixer lorry arriving at 08.00 ish. I will ask TRACT to try and keep the noise down @ the frontage after lunch as the Decorative and Fine Arts Society are here this afternoon, so the 2.30 film will have to be in Cinema 2.

Today TRACT will be mainly working in the Stiwdio making the opening for the new staircase. They will also be continuing work on the new doorways into Pete Williams old studio [unit 8] & the new Facilities office [unit 12] . Electricians are also on site working in unit 8 & the Stiwdio.
