China/2004/110 mins/subtitled/PG. Dir: Tian Zhuangzhuang.
This beautiful documentary follows the highest, most perilous of the world’s ancient trading routes, the Tea-Horse Road that climbs through the Himalayas into Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan. Spectacular images of the wild mountains are interspersed with interviews of the inhabitants of the remote villages along the way. The interviews reveal the ethnic diversity of the mountain people, amongst them a Nua woman of 104, and a young Tibetan who shares a wife with his older brother.
