For two months, The Garage (a stone’s throw from the front of Chapter) will be dramatically transformed into a meeting place, hire space, library and café, designed in Hajjaj’s inimitable ‘style of the souk’ featuring an eclectic array of tables, lamps, stools, pouffs and lanterns.
Le Salon will be open between 1pm and 3pm Tuesday - Saturday. You are invited to relax, use the specialist Arabic library, access our free wireless network, watch films with a North African twist and drink traditional mint tea. Le Salon will host a number of events including traditional North African music workshops, Dj–ing workshops (with DJ Ucef), art crits and classes, a series of North African baking sessions with artist Rhabab Gazoul, Arabic literature sessions, belly dancing and capoeira demonstrations and much, much more.
The space is also available to hire for groups or organizations and is free of charge. If you are interested in using Le Salon please contact the visual arts team on 029 2031 1050 or lesalon@chapter.org.

About Hassan Hajjaj
Hajjaj playfully applies new technologies to redefine the imagery of his childhood. He creates installation environments through recycling materials to create objects for everyday use. He arrived in London from Larache in Morocco in his teens and was inspired by the emerging club culture, absorbing the music and styles of reggae, hip hop and world music. Hajjaj’s visual sensibilities led him to enter the world of art and fashion. In 1984, after running clubs and managing bands, he decided to launch RAP , his own clothing and accessories label. Hajjaj designs and produces furniture, clothing (from customised petrol attendant overalls and babouches to hats), photography, interior design and painting and printed canvas work (which can be seen in Assembly: Art in the Bar).
