The Hawks improv quartet brings you an evening of new, sound-based multimedia performance featuring Rhodri Davies, Gwilly Edmondez, Val Persona, Ilton Joan, S.A.A.B., David Float and more. The concert explores the interface between acoustic instrumentation and electronics, as well as improvisation and composition. The evening also features the full première of a new composition, Oil II b, by Richard Bowers, for violin and live electronics. Bowers and Edmondez were last seen at Chapter during last year’s Experimentica festival, when they collaborated on the powerful audio-visual performance Pandaemonium.

Rhodri Davies is one of the UK’s finest improvising musicians. He plays the harp like nobody else and has done so with Luc Ferrari, John Zorn and the late Derek Bailey.

Davies and Edmondez are both based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a city that has a lively experimental music scene. This concert is part of a small tour that brings together performers from the North East and South Wales.

Expect subtly enchanting soundscapes and viscerally sensuous counterpoints.
