UK/2008/88 mins/15. Dir: Jackie Oudney. With Eric Cantona, Hugh Bonneville, Anne-Marie Duff.
In his second appearance at Chapter this month (see also Looking for Eric), Eric Cantona offers more advice to us flailing Brits as he plays Thierry Grimandi, a celebrated auteur film-maker and self-appointed expert on the nature of love. Jed Winter (Hugh Bonneville), an ‘emotionally reserved’ journalist, is quick to dismiss Grimandi’s theories as pretentious nonsense, irrelevant to real people in real life relationships. However, when his long-term girlfriend Cheryl (Victoria Hamilton) refuses to marry him and forces him into couple counselling, Jed begins to realise that his own emotions aren’t as straightforward as he once believed.
