Prompted by his daughter asking "Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?", US Comedian Chris Rock trades his usual frenetic style to play the role of journalist for this enlightening, often funny and sometimes shocking documentary. He visits beauty salons, hairstyling battles, scientific laboratories and Indian temples, as well as a range of academics and celebrities, to explore the way hairstyles impact on the activities, sexual relationships and self-esteem of the black community. Their candid stories and observations help Rock in his struggle with the task of figuring out how to respond to his daughter’s question.
