Want to see a bad film? | Want to see a bad film?

One of the many things that Cardiff’s award-winning Chapter Arts Centre is known for is the quality of its film programme, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that it is currently playing host to a series of bad films.

But these are bad films with a difference. Nicko and Joe's Bad Film Club is an exciting new venture that aims to combine live action with celluloid. Working on the premise that nothing is better than watching a bad film with friends, however, Nicko and Joe aim to bring you the best in bad movies along with a live DVD-style commentary from the stage.

Organiser Nicko enthused:

“Have you ever been stuck watching a film at the cinema and wanted to laugh out loud at an overly sentimental moment? Wanted to shout, "that would never happen" during an elaborately set up fight scene? Well now you can!”

The regular monthly slot starts on Sunday 8th with founders Nicko and Joe proudly exhibiting Firestorm, one of their all time favourite bad movies.

“This all action, high octane, box office stinker has the lot” continued Nicko, “Fires, escaped convicts, evil villains, bird watchers, bad Canadian accents and more clichés than you can shake a smoking stick at.”

A raging forest fire sets the stage for a daring prison break in this Action adventure film starring former football great Howie Long, who makes his motion picture starring debut portraying fearless 'smokejumper', Jesse Graves. When Graves parachutes into the middle of a forest inferno, he inadvertently exposes a gang of escaped convicts, disguised as firefighters. With a few tools and no back up, he must try to outsmart a cunning killer (William Forsythe) and save an innocent hostage (Suzy Amis). His friend and mentor, Wynt Perkins (Scott Glenn) tries desperately to find him, but the fire is turning and time is running out.

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette called it, "...just a big, dumb B-movie", Reel Film said, "This isn't really a bad movie, it's just a stupid one", whilst the San Francisco Examiner exclaimed "the saving grace of "Firestorm" is that it is very short". All high praise indeed.

If you want to witness one of the best bad movies of the late 90s with this unusual stand-up comedy commentary tickets are on sale from Chapter’s web site at www.chapter.org or their box office on 029 2030 4400.

Nicko and Joes’s Bad Film Club continues on the first Sunday of every month throughout 2006.
