UK Premiere
Rhys Ifans stars in the latest film work by Bethan Huws, following Ion On, which premiered at Chapter in 2003.
The Chocolate Bar is a short film (4:25 mins), yet its script includes three personas, three locations (one of which is potentially outer space, another being Chapter – a perfect pairing) and a host of camera angles. Rhys Ifans plays himself and two characters, or so it seems. Marcel Duchamp’s "Bottle-Rack" ready-made makes a brief appearance. With a reflection of Welsh culture and its actors, in film, theatre and literature, The Chocolate Bar is an extraordinary still-life; a study of how and where art occurs and the everyday humour that allows us to pause and think anew.
The premiere screening of the film (Fri 10 Feb) will be followed by a q+a with Bethan Huws about the evolution of The Chocolate Bar.
The Chocolate Bar will be screened every evening prior to the main Cinema One evening feature from Sat 11 – Sun 19 Feb. It will also be presented as a screen-based installation in Chapter Gallery from Mon 13 – Sun 19 March.
