AND SUDDENLY I DISAPPEAR: the Singapore-UK ‘d’ Monologues

Kaite O’Reilly’s Unlimited International Commission

Produced in the UK by The Llanarth Group

A multilingual, intercultural theatre project, a creative dialogue between UK and Singapore-based artists in an exploration of what it is to be human on opposite sides of the world. Supported by an Unlimited International commission, O’Reilly’s fictionalised monologues shed light on the lived experience of being Deaf or disabled in both the UK and Singapore, and the public perceptions, social attitudes, national agendas as well as misconceptions, stigmas and barriers that empower and/or disempower the individual.  A poignant, powerful, humorous, and philosophical celebration of ‘the atypical’, showcasing stories previously unshared.

This accessible performance includes an ensemble cast of seven outstanding performers from the UK/Singapore, a visually striking set of short pre-recorded videos, visual theatre sequences and a stimulating soundscape. It uses the aesthetics of access, including creative captioning and integrated audio description.
