Art FAQ

How do I exhibit in Chapter Gallery?

We do look at submissions to the Gallery but most of our exhibitions are by invitation to national and international artists. We are a producing venue and work closely with artists to develop their exhibitions here.

Please be aware that we usually programme up to two years in advance so you will need to consider this in your proposal. Our guidelines and details on how to apply are avaiable to download on this page. It's a good idea to look at our archive of previous exhibitions to get a sense of our programme and to look at the artists that we have worked with or will be working with.

We receive a huge volume of proposals and we try to get back to everyone within three months of submission but sometimes it can take a little longer. Sorry but we do not hire the Gallery space for exhibitions.

You can download our submission guidelines and application form on the right of this page, or below if you are viewing on a mobile or tablet.

How do I exhibit in the Art in the Bar programme.

Our Art in the Bar programme is open to professional artists at any stage in their career and with an emphasis on, but not exclusively for, early career artists from or living in Wales. We plan the programme up to eight months in advance and welcome submissions.

You can download our submission guidelines and application form on the right of this page, or below if you are viewing on a mobile or tablet.

Are there any volunteer or intern opportunities at Chapter Gallery?

We offer opportunities around specific events such as Experimentica (our annual live art festival) or if we are working off-site on a large-scale project. To be kept up-to-date you can ask to be added to our e-list: visual.arts@chapter.org

How can I work as a Gallery Live Guide?

We work with local artists who form a core part of our team by providing information and conversation about our exhibitions. Live Guides work part-time and we also offer them a studio at Chapter to support their professional practice. Our Live Guides also host guided tours of the exhibitions, provide a Chapter Gallery blog and organise events based around the programme such as the Tooth & Clawr reading group, Off the Page, The Centre is Here and Come Along Do. There are currently no vacancies.

Do you offer any residency or studio provision?

Chapter has around 50 studios that are home to artists, designers and creative businesses. The Gallery has two 'free' studios that are used to offer temporary residencies for artists who need space either to work towards a particular project deadline or just to explore some ideas. Residencies tend to be for no more than 6 months and can offer curatorial support if required. If you are interested in getting access to a studio for a short residency you can email us at visual.arts@chapter.org
