Chapter Voices: Susan

It’s great to be part of Chapter – there is really so much going on.

I have joined Film Hub Wales, one of nine UK wide ‘hubs’ funded by the British Film Institute to form the Film Audience Network (FAN), with Chapter appointed as the lead organisation in Wales. We’ll be working in partnership with all nine film hubs to launch a major UK wide season of Roald Dahl on Film.

On the 13th September it will be 100 years since the birth of this famous Welsh born storyteller. With the support of the BFI and in partnership with the Roald Dahl Estate, we are screening an array of films, launching from July and will allow fans of all ages to relive their most magical memories as the films are brought to life once more on the big screen.

I’ve been catching up on the films and didn’t realise the wealth of material for young and old alike. Did you know the character the ‘Child Catcher’ in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was created by Roald Dahl? I can see the child catcher now riding his horse and carriage out of the village with Jeremy and Jemima. Did you also know he has been voted the seventh scariest character ever in a poll carried out by Penguin Books?

The Roald Dahl on Film season also promises to cater to all of our Chapter audiences, from the launch of the BFG and a special interactive Scratch ‘n’ Sniff Matilda film experience, where some exciting smells will be uncovered! For the adult audience, we’ll have screenings like Tales of the Unexpected. I can still hear that evocative music and Alfred Hitchcock presents – head in a cushion time!

There will be something for everyone and I feel excited working with such a great team at Film Hub Wales and Chapter to make sure it is a summer to remember.

There will be lots of ways to get involved, to find out more on, visit our Facebook page and join in the conversation on Twitter #RoaldDalhonFilm
