Destino Dance Company: Adey

An exploration of Ethiopian culture through dance. "Movement means more"

A documentary film about Ethiopian cultural dance and its stories seen through the eyes of DESTINO Dance Company.

In 2016 DESTINO was awarded a grant from European Union to lead 18 months project, with the aim of preserving and promoting Ethiopian cultural dance. DESTINO traveled to seven different regions of Ethiopia; to document and investigate the dance tradition that exists in each region. Along the way the research team met and learnt so much from the different ethnic groups, who shared their stories and showed us their dance. Our journey and the experiences we gained were enormous and opened our eyes to our own culture. It uncovers the hidden stories and inspiration behind the different tribe's traditional movements. The documentary film takes us to remote places in Ethiopia and shows us the journey of ADEY from research to the first international dance Festival in Ethiopia and an epic collaboration with 80 dancers from all over Ethiopia.

The film will be followed by a discussion with Addisu and Junaid the founders of Destino Dance Company.

Addisu and Junaid will also lead an ethio-fusion dance workshop hosted by Groundworkpro on Sunday the 3rd of June from 10am-11.30am at Chapter. This is £10 (including a ticket for the film screening). Click here for more information. To book a place on the workshop please email To book for the film screening only, click "book tickets" above.
