Happy as Lazzaro (12A)
IT | 2018 | 125’ | 12A | Alice Rohrwacher
Sweet-natured and naïve young farmer Lazzaro finds an unlikely friend in the petulant Tancredi, the son of the village doyen Marchesa. Their bucolic life is interrupted when Tancredi convinces his hapless ally to help him stage a dramatic incident in order to raise some money. Beautifully shot on super-16mm by Hélène Louvart in the cinematic footsteps of Pasolini, Fellini and Derek Jarman is a kaleidoscopic and evocative magic-realist fable about a modern Italy consumed by corruption and decline.
Winner of Best Screenplay at Cannes Film Festival 2018.
