My Life as a Courgette (PG)

Switzerland/2016/76mins/PG. Dir: Claude Barras. With voice of Ellen Page

Nine year old Icare, (aka ‘Courgette’), finds himself in a local orphanage after the death of his alcoholic mother.  Rather than dwelling on their misfortunes, the kids find ways to co-exist in relative harmony.  Despite its disarmingly uncomplicated look, this stunning animated feature deals with its mature themes subtly and with respect, eschewing sentimentality for brutal honesty and exploring the ways we adapt to the world and make the best of our lives. Brought to life through striking character designs and expressive stop-motion animation, the story soars with laughter, sorrow, and joy, and stands as a testament to the resilience of the human heart.

Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Screening dubbed with an English cast at all screenings.

"A moving slice of reality in stop action... Seeing the world through a child's eyes can be pretty eye-opening. Watching My Life as a Zucchini, the altogether marvelous and Oscar-nominated stop-action animated film by director Claude Barras, that world is one you will not soon forget."
Chicago Sun-Times
"A testament to the power of community to heal the deepest wounds, “My Life As A Zucchini” takes on heavy subject matter with a light hand, and comes up with a delightful tale that is equal parts wrenching and uplifting. "
