#GivingTuesday: Jem Treays

Posted on: 26 Nov 2015 by Jem Treays

#GivingTuesday (1st December 2015) is a global day of giving.  Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering your time or just spreading the word at the start of the Christmas shopping season, #GivingTuesday is an opportunity to come together to show the world why it’s good to give.

In 2015 Chapter is taking part and will spend the day encouraging people, charities and businesses to donate time, money or their voice to help us.  Here, Jem Treays of Run Ragged Dance tells us why he gives his support to Chapter and why you should too!

Add your voice and make sure to take part by sharing your story with us on #GivingTuesday.

I and my family use Chapter all the time. We live around the corner and its really a big part of our lives. It's a place my wife and I sit and have a drink with friends, we all come for a family film and meal, my daughter does ballet here with Mandy Morris three times a week.

As artistic director of Run Ragged Dance I use it as my second office (fab wifi speeds, good coffee!), to catch up on theatre and dance (really enjoyed the Cardiff Dance Festival recently) and to rehearse and present my company Run Ragged's family dance theatre shows. Most recently my daughter Ella and I presented Transitions (a dance show we made and perform together). The audience was a classic Chapter mix - ballet girls, fathers and daughters, friends, local artists and general theatre goers.

We've been coming to Chapter for twenty five years. It's been great to see it grow and we've grown with it. The reason we still live in Canton? Chapter. Friends who come up from London are always saying how lucky we are. Its a multi generational, all inclusive venue, where artists and the community co-exist happily. It's a relaxed unpretentious vibe. We love it. It's our favourite arts venue in the world!
