Lavender Screen: The Hunger

Posted on: 17 Feb 2016 by Claire Vaughan

Our Lavender Screen LGBTQI+ discussion group meets monthly to discuss the latest films, chaired by our Programme Officer for Film and Cinema, Claire Vaughan. In March they discuss The Hunger as part of our David Bowie Moonage Daydream season. Here you can read the supporting materials and listen to the recording after the discussion.

Discussion points

  • Is horror an inherently queer genre?
  • This is part of our David Bowie season, how does it showcase Bowie’s ambiguous sexuality?
  • This is a film directed and written by straight men, how do you think the story would have been different from an LGBTQ filmmaker?
  • How difficult do you think this film was to make and market in 1983?
