British Dance Edition

Posted on: 18 Feb 2016

Tue 15 — Fri 18 Mar

British Dance Edition (BDE) is the biennial showcase of British dance. Recognised as a major event within the international dance calendar, it presents a diverse programme of quality dance over an intensive four-day period to industry promoters and presenters.

The four key venues Wales Millennium Centre, National Dance Company Wales’ Dance House and The Riverfront are being led by Chapter and its creative producer programme Coreo Cymru, who has successfully brought British Dance Edition to Wales for the first time since being established by National Dance Network in 1998.

Chapter and its consortium partners are delighted to be inviting and hosting up to 375 delegates to support the buying and selling of British dance and to forge new links within the international dance community. The showcase will present performances from 36 leading and emerging dance companies and artists from all four UK nations including Wales’s National Dance Company Wales, Jo Fong, Gwyn Emberton Dance, Theatr Genedlaethol, Vertical Dance Kate Lawrence and Up & Over It.

Within the dynamic programme five performances will be on public sale at Wales Millennium Centre and The Riverfront in Newport offering audiences a chance to experience some of the most exciting dance the UK can offer. These include two triple bills in the Donald Gordon Theatre including work by Russell Maliphant, Phoenix Dance Company, Scottish Dance Theatre, Hofesh Shechter Company, National Dance Company Wales and Candoco; and at The Riverfront a double bill from rising stars Aakash Odedra and James Cousins, and riveting dance theatre from both Gary Clarke Company and Gecko Theatre.

Chapter will be presenting emerging companies Robbie Synge, Dan Daw Creative Projects and Project O on Wednesday 16 March and playing host to an international delegation of dance professionals.

Surrounding this packed programme of work is an extensive trade show representing up to 70 British companies. There will be pitches from an additional 11 artists and companies about their forthcoming productions and ideas, including Ballet Cymru, Simon Whitehead, Shobana Jeyasingh and Jasmin Vardimon and the Business of Dance programme for emerging artists and producers in partnership with Dance UK and the British Council.

One-day passes will be available to local independent artists and professionals providing entry into the Trade-show, discussion sessions, networking receptions and selected performances on 17 March at Wales Millennium Centre.
