Chapter Needs You! Choose Chapter in the Tesco Bags of Help vote

Posted on: 31 Oct 2016

Voting has now finished in our round of the competition. A huge thank you to everyone who supported us - we'll let you know the outcome as soon as we are able!

We’re extremely pleased to have been chosen as a beneficiary of the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Over the next two weeks, Chapter will be one of three projects selected to receive up to £12,000 in funding from Tesco’s 5p carrier bag charge. Tesco customers will be able to vote for their chosen project in 10 stores across Cardiff – see the list of stores below to see if your local store is participating and vote for Chapter on your next visit!

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 416 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 31st October – 13th November on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards. In total, there is over £12.5 million up for grabs.

The money we receive will support Chapter’s ambitions to become a greener centre and this activity supports a wider range of green initiatives including solar panels on the roof; water restrictors on taps across the venue; encouraging recycling and reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill; right through to our overall education programme with local schools teaching them about healthy food production and healthy eating.  Our aim is not only to directly practice environmental awareness ourselves as a major community hub, but also to enable our local residents, volunteers and schools to learn how they can make a difference, whether it’s through growing their own food or recycling more at home.
