We are delighted that Elin Wyn, Chair of Chapter’s Board of Trustees has been shortlisted for the Director of the Year UK Finals 2016, in the Not for Profit / Third Sector Director of the Year award category. The Awards ceremony will take place in London on Friday 21 October.
This follows a hugely successful year for Elin, who won the award for Director in a Social Enterprise or Charity at the Institute of Directors’ Wales Director of the Year Awards 2016 held in Cardiff in May of this year.
Elin was appointed as Chair in October, having joined the Board in 2007. Born and raised in Cardiff, Elin has enjoyed visiting Chapter since the early 1980s, and had long been an admirer of the centre before joining the Board.
Elin works as a business lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University and the University of South Wales teaching strategy, marketing and management in Welsh. Previously Elin had a 24 year career as a journalist, producer and editor at BBC Wales leaving in 2006 to set up a media and communications consultancy. She has provided media training for many private, public and third sector organisations and has also trained journalists in countries as far afield as Iraq, Pakistan, Ghana and Swaziland.
As an active supporter of the Welsh language Elin has worked hard over the past nine years to secure the development of Chapter’s bilingual identity, the programming of Welsh language productions and securing more Welsh language activities in the centre.
ince her appointment as Chair of the Chapter Board Elin has been eager to help develop the learning and engagement strategy, and wants to find innovative ways of utilising the skills set of the staff to share good practice the length and breadth of Wales.
“I am delighted to be nominated for this award. Winning the IoD Wales Director of the Year award was an honour in itself but to be nominated for the UK award is the icing on the cake! I am proud that Chapter has been recognised by an organisation that represents business and industry leaders. It underlines the important contribution of arts organisations to the economy of Wales and beyond.”
Hannah Firth, Director of Programme / Acting Director of Chapter said;
“We are absolutely thrilled that Elin has been rightly recognised for the work that she does for Chapter. Elin’s strength lies in the fact that she has a genuine passion for Chapter – from our cultural and learning programmes to our caffi bar and social spaces - that she advocates at the highest level.
Elin is relatively new as Chair but has already made a great impact. She is supported by a strong and experienced Board of Trustees who work hard with her to steer the strategic vision of the organisation.”
Please join us in congratulating Elin and wish her all the best for the ceremony in October.
