Chapter Archive: Pete Fowler Posted on 27 May 2020

Next year we celebrate our 50th Birthday. To mark this momentous occasion we’re looking back through our archive at some of the incredible events, exhibitions, gigs, gatherings and people who’ve made Chapter what it is today.

This week, we’re looking back at Pete Fowler’s 2007 psychedelic exhibition. Pete created this site-specific painting in our old-style café-bar just before we re-styled it to the space that you know today.

Cardiff-born artist Pete is best known for his collaborations with the Super Furry Animals. His weird and wonderful characters from his world of Monsterism Island take the form of toy figures and sculptures, and are featured in drawings, paintings, animated videos and websites. Monsterism Island is a magical place where sentient mountains gaze down upon communities of uniquely fashioned creatures, whose adaptations set them apart from regular people and animals.

Pete has recently created a range of colouring sheets that includes the outline of this wonderful work for Chapter. We’re sure they’ll keep the kids excited and entertained this half term! Make sure you tweet or tag us with your lovely gallery of magical creatures!
