Coming soon: Chapter’s festive filled programme of events for 2019

Come and get in the Christmas spirit with this year’s mix of events for all ages - including films, workshops and festivals.

For families and little ones, there will be a series of workshops and fun festive films. Matt Beere, Chapter’s Education Manager, will be hosting: An Advent Calendar Workshop (24 Nov), two Chapter Sewcials where you can craft your own Elf on the Shelf (24 Nov) or a Fluffy Deer (15 Dec) and Animating Christmas (7 & 14 Dec) where you will learn how to create a unique animated Christmas card. Family films include the long awaited sequel to smash hit musical Frozen II (7 - 29 Dec) which includes a Film Activity Day with Beth Morris on 21 Dec and this year’s highly anticipated CBeebies Christmas Show (30 Nov & 1 Dec), a feast of Christmas fun, including interactive content exclusively created for cinemas alongside the Hansel & Gretel stage performance recorded at Edinburgh Festival theatre.

For everyone else in search of a festive treat, there will be screenings of new release Last Christmas (13-19 Dec) starring Emilia Clarke, inspired by the songs of George Michael, Carol (22 Dec) and the American Christmas Classic It’s a Wonderful Life (24 Dec). Festive performances include Sprinkles (19-21 Dec), an antidote to all the tinsel and tantrums, presented by Chapter and theatre company Dirty Protest.

We also continue with the #BFIMusicals! season. What better way to celebrate Christmas than by singing along to some of the most well known musicals ever made. Dancing their way onto the big screen this December are: All That Jazz (1 & 3 Dec), The Nightmare Before Christmas (30 Nov & 1 Dec), The Greatest Showman Singalong (7 & 8 Dec), Meet Me in St. Louis (14 & 15 Dec), a Mamma Mia double bill with mince pies and sherry (15 Dec), new release Cats (20 – 30 Dec), The Muppet Christmas Carol (21 & 22 Dec) and Grease Singalong (28 Dec).

We are encouraging Cardiff’s community to shop local with #CantonatChristmas this year. Our very own Oh So Festive Market (30 Nov – 1 Dec) returns with a marvellous array of independent makers. Find unique gifts with everything from craft and homeware to artisan food, jewellery and cards, and print your own t-shirts with a pop-up Printhaus stall. The first ever Canton Book Festival (29 Nov - 1 Dec) takes place over the same weekend with a packed programme of free literary events featuring some of Cardiff’s best local authors. Tickets can be booked in advance at cantonbookfest.eventbrite.com. #CantonatChristmas is all about supporting talented local shops, businesses, makers and artists. The Apothecary, Crafty Devil, St Canna’s, Fair Do’s, Cherrybomb Tattoo, The Butcher’s Arms and Peartree Languages are amongst a few of the local businesses who are getting involved. Please follow the Canton at Christmas Facebook page for updates and to get the latest news and offers.

Alongside Chapter’s programme, a selection of joyful treats will be available at our Caffi/Bar. Our two-course Christmas menu features your favourite trimmings but if you’re looking for something a little different try our festive sharing table. Packed full of seasonal, local ingredients and handmade treats, it’s a great alternative to more traditional meals. Both festive menus are available now until 20 December, bookings need to be made in advance. For large bookings over ten people, we are offering a free glass of prosecco for everyone in your party. Please email your enquiry/booking to christmas@chapter.org.

Don’t forget, if you’d like to give the gift of access to the arts this year, Chapter’s gift memberships are available to purchase from box office.

Share the love this Christmas at Chapter!
