Due to COVID-19, our building is temporarily closed until further notice. We’ll be monitoring updates from Welsh Government and will keep you posted on our plans via our newsletters, website and social media. We look forward to the time when we can welcome you back. Until then, we’re offering our programme online, so keep an eye on What's On. With your support, we can continue to operate and secure our future. Thank you.

We're closing on Friday 4 December

We're closing on Friday 4 December, at 6pm

Thank you to everyone who has visited us over the last few weeks. It’s been fantastic to see so many familiar (and new) faces enjoying our films, exhibitions, classes, food and drink. Seeing the building bustling with people has really lifted our spirits, and your support has meant the world to us.

We’ve worked really hard to bring you the best possible experience and are happy to hear that you’ve felt safe and welcome when you’ve been to see us.

As many of you will be aware, this week Mark Drakeford announced that all cinemas and galleries in Wales must close. In addition, that café bars cannot serve alcohol and must shut their doors at 6pm each day as of this Friday 4 December.

This has obviously dealt another heavy blow to us and to the creative and local communities that are such a vital part of what makes Chapter.

We’ve spent the last 24 hours trying to work out whether it’s possible for us to remain open with a café offer only, and believe us when we say that we’ve looked in to every option available to us. However, it’s with a heavy heart that we have had to take the very difficult decision to close our doors to you, our visitors, once more. We plan to re-open on Monday 4 January and will keep you up to date with news as we know more from Welsh Government.

As many of you already know from our previous announcements, our reliance on public subsidy is low in comparison to our costs. We rely heavily on the income that we generate ourselves through our trading arm, our cinema and theatre ticket sales, and the many classes and hires that we support each week. Without the ability to bring in this additional money, it’s just not possible for us to remain open where we could risk running at a loss that could jeopardise the longer term future of our arts centre.

We’re already working hard behind the scenes to bring you an alternative programme whilst we’re closed, so keep an eye on our website for news of forthcoming events both online and outside.

We hope you all stay safe and well this festive season and we look forward to welcoming you back to Chapter in the New Year!

With our thanks and best wishes,

The Chapter team
