BAFTA is the UK’s foremost charity working with the leading lights in film, television and interactive media.
BAFTA Cymru was set up as a branch of BAFTA over twenty years ago and established in response to a desire by the Academy to ensure that the values and reach of BAFTA and its operations extended to creative communities throughout the United Kingdom. The vision of BAFTA in Wales operates under a common set of values and standards across the Academy as follows:
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Wales supports develops and promotes the art forms of the moving image, by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners and benefiting the public.
The British Academy Cymru Awards is Wales’ most prestigious ceremony of its kind, celebrating excellence in entertainment and broadcasting. Previous award winners and guests include Ruth Jones, Michael Sheen, Rob Brydon, Eve Myles, Rhys Ifans, Leslie Phillips, David Tennant, Ioan Gruffudd, Siân Phillips, Lord Richard Attenborough, Bryn Terfel, Katherine Jenkins, Mike Leigh, Martin Freeman, Charlie Brooks, Russell T Davies, Gethin Jones, John Humphrys, Huw Edwards, Aled Jones, Cerys Matthews, Charlotte Church and Ken Russell.
The British Academy Cymru Awards provide an independent platform to showcase the work that truly reflects the best of Wales - making a difference, both to those producing creative work and to those watching it.
This recognition is vitally important for BAFTA in Wales to provide a platform for showcasing the best that Wales has to offer in film, television and interactive media and achieved only with the support of our corporate partners and sponsors , integral to the staging of such an event in Wales.

Since 1991 the Welsh capital, City of Cardiff has played host to our annual Award Ceremony , an event that has become a major highlight for Wales’ media industry. The prestigious British Academy Cymru Award 'mask' has long been recognised as a symbol of creative excellence, alongside the glitz, glamour and excitement of the event that takes place annually in May.
