Summer 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike. In London lesbian and gay activists decide to raise money to support the families of the miners, but they encounter a problem when the NUM seem embarrassed to receive their support. Undeterred, they decide to go directly to the miners, identifying a mining village in the Dulais Valley. This is an impassioned and extraordinary true story of two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership.
