Due to COVID-19, our building is temporarily closed until further notice. We’ll be monitoring updates from Welsh Government and will keep you posted on our plans via our newsletters, website and social media. We look forward to the time when we can welcome you back. Until then, we’re offering our programme online, so keep an eye on What's On. With your support, we can continue to operate and secure our future. Thank you.

Volunteer (2019)

Our volunteers are a fantastic bunch of people who come from all walks of life but share one thing in common – they’re passionate about Chapter and what we do. They also love new experiences and welcoming people to the building. Our volunteers help us with all sorts of events and activities and make a vital contribution to the day-to-day operation of such a busy arts centre. In return, we offer lots of great opportunities – to see theatre performances and film screenings free of charge, to receive training and, most importantly, to become part of the Chapter community.

As a volunteer usher, your role will include:

  • Welcoming visitors
  • Checking audience members' tickets
  • Responding to visitor needs & queries

As a volunteer we ask for you to do at least 2 shifts per month, and in return you will receive:

  • Two free cinema tickets per month
  • 10% discount at our Caffi Bar
  • Tempo Time Credits on selected screenings and performances
  • The opportunity to apply for internal job vacancies
  • Everything you usher, you will see for free
  • Training opportunities and experience in customer service within the charity arts sector
  • The chance to meet up with like-minded people

If you are interested in becoming a Chapter volunteer, download the application form and further information.

We are now accepting Volunteer applications for 2020. Please submit your application form to cherry.bernstein@chapter.org

Please note: ages 18+ only

What our volunteers have to say...

"The best thing about volunteering here is the super-friendliness of the staff, they always look like we matter...and I love the cake." Nonn, Volunteer

"I came here in June 2012, and I've ushered over 1,000 films. Do you know, in my home I've got four carrier bags of ticket stubs and I'm starting my fifth. I don't know what I'm saving them for, it's just something to keep!" Colin, Volunteer

"You meet a lot of people, it's nice, I practice my English. You meet a lot of people in the cinema but I don't remember all of their names!" Maria, Volunteer

"A Star Is Born is probably my favourite film of 2018. Seeing Lady Gaga in a different role was really interesting, as before I wasn't a particular fan of her" Johnathan, Volunteer

"Chapter is like a second home for me. When I was getting ready to retire I wrote to Chapter and asked, do you have any opportunities for ushers and they didn't... but then when I retired they started the volunteer scheme so I signed right up" Menna, Volunteer

"I started six years ago, when I was coming up to retirement. What I love about it is the range of films, and the range of people who come to Chapter. I used to teach history in Coleg Gwent and I see some of my students here" Frank, Volunteer
