This year, we’re celebrating our 50th Birthday and, to mark this very special occasion, we want to showcase the talent of local young artists!
We invited all children and young people in Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil to send themselves a postcard from an imagined future, half a century from now. We asked them to let their imaginations run wild: How will we travel? What will we eat? Where will we live? What will school look like?
We had an amazing 1,200 submissions from 17 different schools, and we were so excited to see such incredible talent.
We worked with an expert panel of judges - Andrew Ogun, Agent for Change at Arts Council Wales, and Kylie Allinson Beere, from our Young Programmers team - to sift through all the submissions and make the difficult decision to pick the top three from each age group (5-8 years, 9-11 years and 12-16 years).
Now we’re asking for your help! We’d love for you to pick your favourite.
You can see all of the shortlisted works in an exhibition in our café bar or to view them online and vote for your winner, click here (voting closes on Friday 8 October).
The artwork with the most votes will be displayed on our Lightbox for six months.
On 12 November, join us for the grand unveiling of the winner at the front of our building.
As we were so impressed with the creativity of our young people, we didn’t want this to be all about the final nine, so we’re pleased to say that you can see all the artwork submissions in an online exhibition from 12 November, too!
Thank you to all of the schools, children and young people for submitting your incredible artworks.
