Something is rotten in the state of Florida. It’s the day after Christmas, and the deadness of the year hangs in the swampy air.
Billy 5000 is an aimless teen doing his best to fill his days and fill his pockets, if he can pull together a quick $5,000 before New Year he’ll have what he needs to get his life on track. However, the cosmic forces in charge of Florida have other plans for Billy.
We highly recommend you catch this beautifully colourful and musical film, showcasing a slice of absurd life in the States through the eyes of Julian Glander. Regular CAN goers might recognise the stylish 3D look of Glander’s work from several of his shorts screened over the years!
Following the screening we will hear from director Julian Glander in a pre-recorded Q+A, as he talks us through the creation of this dreamy coming-of-age story, how he packed it with heart, humour, and banger musical numbers as well as finding inspiration from growing up in the sunshine state of Florida.
