Nurse Manuela loses her son when he is hit by a car. In her grief she travels to Barcelona in search of her son’s other birth parent, a Trans woman in Barcelona. Once there, she reconnects with old friends and meets an overwrought actress, her jealous lover and a pregnant nun. As the Oscars winds up awards season for 2023, we look back at the the Best Foreign Film winner from 1999, a magnificent celebration of femininity, chosen by the team at Wicked Wales Youth Film Festival to mark Mother’s Day.
