Over the last four years, Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham have been venturing deep into the glorious world of Studio Ghibli on their podcast Ghibliotheque. After 50-plus episodes, they have covered every major Studio Ghibli release, interviewed Ghibli filmmakers (Goro Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki), cheerleaders (Helen McCarthy, Jonathan Ross) and mega-fans (Rebecca Sugar, Arlo Parks), and even travelled to Japan for the ultimate Ghibli pilgrimage.
Then, in 2021, Ghibliotheque leapt out of the earbuds and onto the printed page for the lavishly-illustrated hardback Ghibliotheque – The Unofficial Guide to the Films of Studio Ghibli, which charts the world-conquering rise of Studio Ghibli film-by-film, from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind to Earwig and the Witch, by way of My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and more.
Now, they’re coming to Cardiff to share what they have learned along the way in their audiovisual live show ‘The Z-A of Studio Ghibli’. Expect insights, trivia titbits, crackpot theories and more in this rollercoaster-ride through life and works of the world’s greatest animation studio.
Following this performance, Jake and Michael will be selling and signing copies of the Ghibliotheque book in the Cinema Foyer.
