Docn' Roll: Dom Salvador and Abolition (ctba)

USA | 2021 | 90’ | TBC | Lilka Hara, Artur Ratton

The musical and personal journey of Dom Salvador, an African-Brazilian musician who found a home in New York after leaving Brazil in the darkest days of its military dictatorship. The godfather of Brazilian soul and one of the key figures in the creation of bossa nova, he would also become an icon of Black pride with his band Abolição (Abolition).

The film captures Salvador, now in his eighties, in the streets of his adopted city, memories emerging with each step. His humility and resilience are revealed in captivating moments, from performing at Carnegie Hall and the scenic River Cafe, to rifling through vinyl at record shops and organising shows in jazz clubs.
