REBEL DYKES TAKOVER IRIS AT CHAPTER!
It was inevitable that any screening of Rebel Dykes as part of the Iris Prize LGBTQA+ Film Festival would become something special. So, as we close the 15th edition of our in-person film extravaganza the Rebel Dykes take over.

UK | 2021 | 82’ | adv18 | Harri Shanahan, Sîan Williams
In the 1980s a tight-knit group of friends met at Greenham Common peace camp and went on to become artists, performers, musicians and activists in London. This documentary is a heady mix of animation, archive footage and interviews telling the story of a radical scene: squatters, BDSM nightclubs, political rallies and fierce ties to chosen family. An extraordinary glimpse into a queer joy in all its leather-wearing glory!

“Rebel Dykes arrives in all its ass-kicking, leather-wearing glory. The film follows a tight-knit group of friends who met at Greenham Common peace camp and went on to become artists, performers, musicians and activists in London.

A heady mash-up of animation, archive footage and interviews tells the story of a radical scene: squatters, BDSM nightclubs, anti-Thatcher rallies, protests demanding action around AIDS and the fierce ties of chosen family. This is an extraordinarily privileged glimpse into a bygone world by those who not only lived out their politics with heartfelt conviction but lived to tell the tale.”
