Fisherman Jesmark is struggling to make ends meet in an increasingly harsh market. With a wife and young baby to support, he’s constantly battling both new laws limiting the types of fish that he can catch and the giant commercial trawlers that dominate the sea. Seeing no way forward, Jesmark happens on a black-market operation that could offer a dangerous solution to his problems. Luzzo is an intimate and authentic character study, with exceptional performances from non-actors, and a stunning debut from its writer-director who crafts a crushing lament at the loss of community and cultural traditions in the face of changes in the climate and the name of progress.
