When a village is repeatedly attacked by merciless bandits they ask an elderly samurai for help and he assembles a band of warriors to defend and train the farmers to protect themselves. Kurosawa’s epic and influential tale is a masterclass in filmmaking style with vivid characters and dazzling performances. Influenced in turn by Western voices like Shakespeare and Homer this is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.
