In this award-winning adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, young lovers Maria and Tony find themselves entangled in the bitter battle between two warring New York City gangs - the White Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. After meeting at a dance, no-one can do anything to stop their love. Maria and Tony begin meeting in secret, planning to run away, but when they attempt to stop the violent feuding there are tragic, unexpected consequences.
