One day in the Anne Frank Museum in contemporary Amsterdam, Anne Frank’s diary (whom she named Kitty) comes vividly to life and asks a fellow teenager hiding in the museum for help to find out what happened to her best friend. Kitty bears witness to the Frank family’s last months of survival during the Holocaust and is introduced to modern Europe by her new friend. Bold and richly imaginative, with a beautiful soundtrack by Karen O and Ben Goldwasser, Waltz with Bashir director Ari Folman (himself the son of Holocaust survivors) filters Anne’s famous story through a modern lens to make it accessible to a new generation at a time when antisemitism and fascism is again on the rise.
