Yentl (PG)

Yentl (PG)

Sun 19 & Tue 21 January

After her father dies, Yentl Mendel disguises herself as a man so that she can secretly continue the education traditionally denied to her as a woman. Yentl enrols at a Jewish religious school in Bychawa and finds she is falling in love with a classmate, Avigdor, who is engaged. Avgidor’s fiancé, meanwhile, is falling for Yentl. With echoes of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, this tale of a young woman growing up in an oppressive society is optimistic, moving and blessed with a brilliant musical score.
