Common Wealth: Rent Party

Wed 29 September - Sat 2 October

Being broke never looked so fierce! Come to the party we’ve all been waiting for - a 21st century Austerity Britain immersive show inspired by the 1920s Harlem Renaissance Rent Parties.

Acclaimed choreographer and director Darren Pritchard (House of Ghetto) and Common Wealth invite you, the audience, to pay to come to a party, so that they can make this month’s rent, and entertain you with all their artist friends – dancers, singers, musicians, poets – who will create a kaleidoscopic picture of what it means today to be gifted, Welsh and working class. A community centre-stage in a dazzling cabaret of performances, telling their own stories about the true cost of austerity.

This is the first of three collaborative touring productions commissioned by the Moving Roots Touring Network, a creative touring network led by Battersea Arts Centre with producing partners Lyrici Arts (Medway), Jumped Up Theatre (Peterborough), Common Wealth (Cardiff East) and The Old Courts (Wigan).

Please note, there will be audience participation (in line with COVID guidelines).

Ages 18+
Content warning: The performance includes adult themes.
