Installation Performance: 12-8pm
Always Already is an eight-hour performance installation, with an embedded event in its penultimate hour.
Always Already uses materials, text, sound and movement to explore the weaving together of plant, human and machine, including human/plant and human/machine hybrids. The eight-hour scale references the length of a working day, where the performers compose a machine constructed of 100 Forgotten Questions, and turn the room into a loom. During the six hours leading to the embedded performance, they warp the room, while focusing on the repetition of small gestures, insignificant singly but gaining significance through accumulation.
Audiences are invited to drop in and out over the 8 hours, and also to stay for the penultimate hour (6-7pm) when the performance aspect becomes a thicker weave.
Karen Christopher is a collaborative performance maker, performer, and teacher. Her company, Haranczak/Navarre Performance Projects, is engaged in creating duet performances. She was a member of Chicago-based Goat Island performance group for 20 years until they disbanded in 2009. Karen’s work includes a search for points of intersection and combinations that surprise and awaken the mind, affording shifts of understanding and awareness through the community of the performance event. She’s listening for the unnoticed, the almost invisible, and the very quiet.
Tara Fatehi Irani is an artist, performer and writer. Her work is primarily concerned with the ephemeral interactions between memories, words, bodies and sites. She works with performance, text, voice, video, photography, mistranslation, site-specificity and historical inaccuracies. Her year-long daily series of photographs and dances in public space Mishandled Archive is published as a book by Live Art Development Agency (2020). Alongside her solo practice, Tara actively collaborates with other artists.
