This week, BFI London Film Festival 2025 favourite returns: It Was Just an Accident, Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or-winning thriller follows a man’s confrontation with a possible former torturer. A tense, morally charged road trip with sharp political bite.
Still Pushing Pineapples offers a moving and irreverent documentary tracing the comeback journey of former pop-star Dene Michael (of “Agadoo” fame). A heartfelt road movie about nostalgia, identity and second chances.
In our ongoing BFI Too Much: Melodrama on Film season, we explore how Queer culture emerged through stories about women during the era of the celluloid closet. Highlights include a sumptuous restoration of Douglas Sirk’s Brief Encounter and Johnny Guitar alongside the shifting subversions of Victim and the gloriously unruly openness of John Waters’ Polyester.
Our Found Footage Double Bill dives into jump-scares, shaky-cam tension and creeping dread, followed by a discussion from Becky Darke and Caitlyn Downs.
Finally, gather the family for a festive treat with Cardiff Animation Festival’s seasonal animation double bill Siôn Blewyn Coch: The Ghost of Midwinter, alongside CBeebies Panto 2025: Cinderella – cheerful, feel-good stories perfect for younger viewers.
