Dan Johnson is a percussionist, performance artist, educator and deep listening facilitator based between Bristol and Cardiff. He’s known for pushing the boundaries of percussion through durational performance art that incorporates sound and movement. He recently completed a residency at the Marina Abramovic Institute in Greece, and studied with the Centre for Deep Listening, NY in 2022. Dan’s approach is infinitely adaptable and centred around meaningful exploration. Audiences have described his performances as vulnerable, generous, enduring and untethered.
Over a six-month period, Dan will be Artist in Residence at Chapter, contributing interventions and public offerings throughout. During this time, he’ll work towards a new ensemble composition, and lead a series of free workshops for young people. Ecstatic Drum Beats will introduce experimental percussion and performance techniques, centering play, collectivity, listening and embodiment to explore alternative and accessible routes into music and live performance.
