Safeguarding Statement

Chapter upholds the principle that all individuals have the right to protection from abuse or harm and we strive to offer an environment that’s safe and welcoming for all.

We’re committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of employees, volunteers and every person who participates in our activities, in our venue and elsewhere.

Chapter’s staff, volunteers and anyone working on our behalf are all responsible for implementing our Safeguarding Policy and procedures. We also recognise the important role that visitors can play in helping us to keep Chapter safe.

Our Safeguarding Policy and Procedures are guided by the following principles:

  • We believe that everyone has the right to protection regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, size or identity. We are committed to anti-discriminatory practice.
  • We value, listen to and respect the experiences of the people we work with.
  • We use our safeguarding procedures to share concerns and relevant information with agencies and individuals, when and if appropriate.
  • Safeguarding procedures are included in the risk assessment of any programme project and in partnership agreements.
  • Staff and volunteers are recruited safely, ensuring all necessary checks are made and that information relating to these checks is stored in line with our Policy Procedures.
  • We effectively manage staff and volunteers through supervision, support and training.
  • We implement guidelines for good practice for staff, partners and volunteers.
  • We ensure that we provide a safe physical environment for children, young people, vulnerable adults, staff and volunteers, by applying health and safety measures in accordance with the law and regulatory guidance.
  • Always record and store information professionally and securely.
  • At all times, have an appointed Safeguarding Lead, Deputy Lead, and a Lead Trustee.
  • Our safeguarding practices are accompanied by our Code of Conduct

Chapter is committed to equity and inclusivity, and we seek to embed best safeguarding practice across all the work that we do.

To ensure compliance with current legislation, our Safeguarding Policy and practices are reviewed by our Board of Trustees once a year, after changes to our business model or designated Safeguarding Leads. It’s also reviewed in the event of changes to government legislation.

Our Safeguarding Policy is evaluated annually and was last reviewed on 30/11/2026

How to report

If you’re concerned about your own wellbeing or that of anyone else within our venue, please speak to a member of our duty management team at the front desk. They’ll take a statement in confidence.

Due to the nature of our operations, we can’t always guarantee who’ll be on duty so if, for example, you prefer a female member of staff but you’re reporting outside of normal office hours (9am – 6pm), we may need to ask another member of the organisation to join as an observer.

Our Duty Manager will report the incident to our Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Lead within 24 hours. Alternatively, you can email our Safeguarding Team directly. A Safeguarding Lead will respond to you (unless you request them not to) within 48 hours of receiving the report.
