Film Academy Micro Shorts Grants
- Published:
£1000 grants available to filmmakers in/from Wales aged 16 – 25 to make a micro-short film!
BFI Film Academy and Chapter are offering £1000 grants to make a micro-short film up to 100 seconds long, plus mentoring sessions from experienced industry professionals.
The opportunity is open to filmmakers aged 16-25 (as of 02.06.2025), born or living in Wales. To apply, you’ll need:
YOUR STORY: This could be a written summary, a recorded pitch or even a full screenplay.
YOUR PLAN FOR HOW TO SHOOT IT: Give us a sense of how your film will look and sound. This could be with mood boards, sketches, a sizzle reel or whatever works for you.
YOUR BUDGET: A breakdown of how you will use the £1000 to achieve your vision.
Entries can be in English, Welsh or BSL. No previous filmmaking experience or qualifications are required, but the project you submit should be something you could be ready to shoot in the next 3 months or so.
Applications will be evaluated on the strength and achievability of the idea, and we particularly encourage applications from groups currently under-represented in the film industry. Previous recipients of full grants are ineligible to apply for this round of funding.

The deadline is 12 noon, Monday 2 June 2025. Any questions? Please email [email protected].
Good luck!
