In Helsinki, Ansa and Holappa, two lonely souls in search of love, meet by chance in a local karaoke bar. Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki crafts another beautiful, deadpan almost-fairytale grounded firmly in its contemporary setting, where the road to happiness is beset by obstacles including fear, alcoholism, financial stresses and a charming stray dog.
