Victorian Anglesey is still a semi-feudal society, with a Lord governing the island and an industrialist from the local slate mines waiting in the wings to establish power. Newly recognised as heir, Henry Cyril Paget arrives and brings an opulent splash of colour to the community: covered in jewels from France, mourning the loss of his beloved mother by wearing her gowns. Despite the outcry from the shocked gentry, ‘the dancing Marquess’ Henry’s allies such as butler Gelert, cousin Lily and local townsfolk become beguiled by his infectious enthusiasm for expressing himself.
