Effi is a young woman from Blaenau Ffestiniog, a town where the pubs are closed, the jobs have vanished, and the only family income is coming from part-time shifts her grandmother does in the chip shop. A chance encounter in a Llandudno nightclub gives Effi a glimpse of a life she has never imagined, but the reality that follows brings her down to Earth with a bump. With a blistering central performance from Leisa Gwenllian, this is a cinematic interpretation of Gary Owen’s play Iphigenia in Splott, whose life began in the Sherman Theatre in 2015 before being performed around the world.
