A story of love and resilience based on Alice Walker’s beautiful and controversial novel and the subsequent Broadway musical, this is a decades-spanning tale of one woman's journey to independence. Growing up in rural Georgia in the early 20th century, Celie faces many hardships in her life, but with the help of her friend Sofia and encounters with other formidable women such as the glamorous Shug Avery, she ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. An incredible cast, led by Fantasia Barrino (the Tony-award winning star of the stage production) breathe thrilling life into the story, making this a truly cinematic experience.
