Set in Khartoum, just before the secession of South Sudan, a married former singer from the north seeks redemption for causing the death of a southern man by hiring his oblivious wife as her maid. Unable to confess her transgressions, Mona decides to leave the past behind and adjust to a new status quo, unaware that the country’s turmoil may find its way into her home and put her face to face with her sins.

SAFAR is proud to present Goodbye Julia as part of their 2024 festival.

The SAFAR Film Festival is the largest festival in the UK dedicated to cinema from the Arab world. Founded in 2012, SAFAR showcases the broad spectrum of film from the region by working with curators on themed programmes and inviting filmmakers for live Q&As and events.

SAFAR is supported by the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery, the British Council, the Bagri Foundation and the Barjeel Art Foundation.

The Revolution Support Group will be hosting a post-film discussion about the film and the situation in Sudan.

The Revolution Support Group is a Sudanese solidarity group that was formed in 2019 in conjunction with the great youth revolution that overthrew one of the most powerful dictatorships in the world. The group continues to support those affected by the war caused by the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Militia and has carried out many activities in the field of humanitarian work. Amongst many activities they organise, fundraise and send medicine to the medical centres, and send money and clothes to the needy in displacement camps, all in addition to organising protests to demand an end to the war in Sudan and a return to democratic civil rule. The Revolution Support Group continues to work with everyone who calls for an end to the war until we see Sudan enjoying peace and stability.
