Wales - a Nation of Sanctuary?: Talk with Housing Justice Cymru and activists
Attributes
2.30-3.30pm | Free, no booking required
Welsh Government published their Nation of Sanctuary plan in 2019. The plan aims to offer a ‘distinctive Welsh response’ to people seeking sanctuary, and to help people avoid poverty and destitution. It’s an admirable ambition, but can we truthfully say that Wales is a nation of sanctuary?
We know that people seeking sanctuary can get stuck in limbo, in poor quality housing and with no right to work. The No Recourse To Public Funds policy excludes sanctuary seekers from services, trapping them in poverty, destitution and homelessness.
This event will ask, what happens to people who become destitute? How do we ensure everyone in Wales has adequate housing? And how do we truly make Wales a home for everyone?

This event is part of Grenfell: We Stand With You, a public programme that accompanies the presentation of the film Grenfell by Steve McQueen.
This national tour of Grenfell is being coordinated by Tate in collaboration with the partner venues and is made possible thanks to support using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and from Art Fund. Each presentation will be free to visit and will be accompanied by a public engagement programme of talks, workshops and community events supported by the Grenfell Foundation.
