EXPERIMENTICA 24: Farah Allibhai: My Bhᾶti

An invitation to gather, honour and grieve. Farah’s ritual burial performance offers hope for the new through earth, seed and food. It will be followed by a bhᾶti, a Shia Ismaili Muslim tradition of sharing food and connecting after a funeral.

Farah Allibhai is a Cardiff based artists. As a Ugandan refugee of Gujarati Shia Ismaili Muslim heritage, her work sits within a unique international cultural framework. Through an intersectional lens she explores our relationship to death, the trauma of lost ancestry, identity, connection to land, community, self and family centred around healing, a core element in of her practice.

As a multi-disciplinary artist and curator, drawing on her lived experience she takes inspiration from, amongst other things, indigenous practices, the metaphysical, cultural and spiritual diversity. Her work is observational, performative and site-specific spanning live performance, movement, stillness, pilgrimage, ritual, photography, video, installation and works on paper.

Farah currently holds a one year studio residency at Chapter Arts Centre.

Durational performance open to all.
