Alasdair Roberts is a Glasgow-based musician, drawing upon the traditional song and music culture of Scotland, and further afield, to create both his own idiosyncratic and evocative compositions as well as fresh interpretations of folk songs and narrative ballads.
Burd Ellen (Debbie Armour) uses traditional song to explore and evoke dark landscapes and deep stories. Innovative instrumentation, drone and sound-wash support detailed vocal work to create a unique sonic atmosphere.
In addition to their solo sets, Alasdair and Debbie will also perform some songs together, drawing from their various collaborations over the years.
Alasdair, acclaimed by Folk Radio UK as ‘one of our most talented, important and relevant songwriters and song-adapters’ has released several critically acclaimed albums of his music via Drag City Records over the past two decades, with his latest Painted Rooms due for release in Spring 2023. Burd Ellen’s folk-noir also captures FRUK’s attention…. “there is a beautiful ethereal quality to voice and music which draws you back, time again…both timeless and contemporary.”
